What Is The Right Running Technique?

by Jacek
(Poland)

I have just started running and would love to start with the right technique.
How should my legs / feet work ?

How should I land on the ground ?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Jacek,

Thanks for your question.

The two most important things with regards to technique are probably:

  • Good posture. Run with your head straight up, and with a straight back. See this submission to the Running Training Helpline about running posture for more details.

  • Move your arms along your body, not sideways in front of your body. This stops hip rotation and will improve your speed and aerodynamics.

  • With regards to feet, there are different theories about heel striking. Whether it is good or bad. Don't get too distracted by all of that. Keep the above two tips in mind first and foremost and you are doing a lot of things right when it comes to running technique.

    I hope this helps.

    Enjoy your running.

    Cheers,
    Dominique
