Run 3 Miles Everyday?

by Joe D
(Long Beach, NY)

I am 36 yrs old and had a rod put in my left leg (3 yrs ago) because of a shattered femur. It healed wonderfully. Do you think it's ok that I run (3) miles everyday. I feel OK, been doing it for 3 months now, but don't want to do any long term damage.

Answer by Dominique:

Thanks for your question. A shattered femur is a pretty serious injury (to use an understatement). I am definitely not qualified to provide you with any advice on this, and I think you should talk to a doctor.

All I know is that with a rod in the leg you should be able to have a pretty normal life again. I'd say that low-key short exercise like a 3 mile jog every day qualifies as such, but again, I'd prefer if you would not listen to me and talk to your doctor about your exercise plans! This would especially become important if you ever decide to ratchet it up a notch and start doing longer and/or faster runs.

Best of luck.
Kind regards,
Dominique
