The 800m checkpoint is useful, but for a different reason. Going through fast at 800m usually means adrenaline got the better of you, not that your fitness suddenly improved. Ease back rather than chase it. The 2400m mark, meanwhile, isn't where you fix your pace - it's too late for that. It's where the kick decision gets made: hold, or go now.

Using This Table for Training Paces, Not Just Race Day

Don't file this table away until race week. The even-split lap paces double up as your target pace for goal-pace repeats - 1200m and 1600m reps at goal 3200m pace - in the final three weeks before your race.
