There are four tempo formats worth knowing for 10K training: continuous tempo, cruise intervals, wave (or alternating) tempo, and progressive tempo. Continuous tempo is one unbroken effort. Cruise intervals split the same stimulus into reps at threshold pace with short recovery. Wave tempo surges the pace up and down within one session.
