Running 2.4km in 12 Minutes for 10 Year Old
by Annita

My daughter is training for her black belt this June. In order to make it to the finals she must pass an endurance test which involves push-ups and sit-ups. She mastered that. Now she needs to run 2.4 km (6 laps of 400 meters) in 12 min 30 sec.
Any suggestions?
Answer by Dominique:Hi Annita,
Thanks for your running training question.
I usually try to stay away from giving advice about kids running.
There is just too much I don't know about the kids and I don't want to give you the opportunity to sue me later... :)
If she is training for her black belt I imagine she is in pretty good shape and does some regular training as well.
I imagine this should normally be sufficient to pass the test as they would not set these tests to make the kids fail.
I am not going to prescribe a running training program. But what I would say is that if she has trouble running then stimulating her to run a few times a week for very short distances would be a logical first step.
For more in-depth advice I would consider contacting your local athletics club. They usually have youth coaches and they'd be able to help you better.
Kind regards,
Dominique
