Ankle Bone Rubs on Running Shoes
by Pat
(Wilmington, DE)
I seem to have some ankle discomfort. It looks like my running shoe may be rubbing the right ankle around the bone. There is no issue walking. About 2-3 miles into the run I start to notice it. Thoughts?
Answer by Dominique:
Hi there,
Thanks for your question about your shoe / ankle issue.
I usually don't have this problem, only with higher shoes (e.g. hiking shoes). I would suggest using some tape and stick it over the bone to see if this alleviates the issue.
If you are not already doing it, definitely wear running socks, not just white cotton socks, but proper running socks. They reduce friction and might help.
If everything is to no avail, then I would go to a running shoe store and get some 'on-the-ground' advice.
For your feet you may need shoes that are just that little bit lower than your current pair, or just a little bit higher, but without seeing your feet and your shoes it is hard to comment further.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Dominique
