Best Running Tips Newsletter, Issue #029
-- Run Less, Run Faster
August 31, 2011
G'day!
This is just a quickie to provide you with an opportunity to join in a
contest.
Run Less, Run Faster
===============
I am giving away a copy of the running
training book Run Less,
Run Faster. It's a good book that explains how to run well
on only three days a week.
I am giving away one of these copies via a little contest on my
Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/best-running-tips
You need to
guess how many questions I have answered on best-running-tips.com to
date.
This includes the questions on the running training helpline, the
injuries page etc.
If you are really bored you could count them all. Or you could just
have a guess.
Go to http://www.facebook.com/best-running-tips,
find the contest-thread and put in your guess.
One
clue I have given away is that the answer is definitely less than
1,000. So far, the closest answer is about 30 or so off, so you
definitely have a chance to win. Anyway, it is a pretty small effort to
go to the Facebook-page and just enter three digits.
Contest
closes Sunday 4 September, 2011, midnight PST.
Run Less, Run
Faster
==============
Run
Less, Run Faster is definitely a good book to have.
It does a good job
in explaining how you can run well on limited mileage per week.
Which
is great news for many of us.
Whether
you are injury-prone, can't handle the mileage or are simply too busy,
this book can make a difference.
The book explains how to compensate for running less, by making your
runs quality workouts
and complementing with cross-training.
One thing I don't agree with in the book is that it advocates doing
this type of running year-round. I think a phase of easy running / base
running whatever you name it, is an absolute must. It provides a break
from the tough workouts and helps you develop your aerobic capacity.
The writers ignore
a lot of the conventional wisdom here. Only time will tell whether they
are right or
not.
Be that as it may, the book provides very valid content about how to
put together your running program, running technique, drills to do
etc. You can learn more about the book here:

My Running: Looking for a New Goal
===========================
I did a successful half marathon in July. Hit my goals and that was
with a loose shoe lace at
about the 10k mark.
I literally always put a
double knot in them, but I must have forgotten this time.
Irritated
as this cost me a bit of time, but still got my goal time.
So
all is well that ends well.
Now I am getting ready for another half marathon in November. Hoping to
improve my times a little bit. Not following the Run Less, Run Faster
system exactly, but it is in essence not too different either: doing
quite a bit of quality running and combining this
with cross-training via the indoor-bike and
swimming, and I am
doing some weights as well. All in all a pretty well-rounded fitness
program.
