Hi, We are just getting started. Our 11 year old can can run about 3k, but we want her to train for a 10 km.
Do you have a training program I could follow?
Answer by Dominique: Hi there, Thanks for your running question.
I am sure you are in this with the best intentions, but I can't be supportive of this.
In my opinion, kids are best of to run shorter distances only. There is a reason most kids long distance races are upto 3 - 5k only. 10k is a long way for a child. It is best to let her join an athletic club and let her train on her speed on the shorter distances under supervision of qualified trainers.
That way, she will grow into running faster and further gradually and she can join races for her age group as well.
Although maybe not the answer you were looking for, I hope you can appreciate my answer. Kind regards, Dominique
