Running Sunglasses
A good pair of running sunglasses.
I had never considered the purchase.
Until I set foot on the red sunburnt dry soil of beautiful Australia.
Back in Europe I often did not notice the work the sun was doing. In Australia I do. The scorching sun makes running sunglasses a necessity.
But in other parts of the world they are necessary at certain times of the year as well.
You might not realize that prolonged exposure to the sun is harmful. Not only to your skin (skin cancer !). To your eyes as well.
Running sunglasses can prevent you from getting any of the following conditions :
Pterygium, a fleshy growth under your eyes
Photokeratitis, sunburnt eyes
Macular degeneration, loss of central vision
And even in overcast conditions UV radiation is at work, although not as much as when we are enjoying a blue sky.
So, make sure you have got a pair of sunnies as part of your running gear.
After all, vision is a pretty precious thing !
What are good running sunglasses
Look out for the following features:
Adjustable nosepads, so you get a good fit. Nothing worse than your sunglasses jumping up and down on your nose all the time.
Lightweight frames, the lighter the sunglasses, the less noticeable they will be.
Frames with ventilation, leave the foggy windows for when you are in the drive-in cinema with your lover ... :)
UV-filter, most important of all, because otherwise your running sunglasses will not protect your eyes at all.
