Running: Something That I Love that was Found out of Boredom

by Haley
(Arco,ID)

I started running when I was 13. I never felt like doing track or another school sport to stay fit. I started browsing the Internet, in boredom, looking for ways to exercise my herding dog.

I found something called Canicross.

It's running cross country but with your dog.

I thought that this was the greatest idea ever. I mean a way to keep my dog fit and tone her energy level down a notch or two PLUS help keep me in shape.

I grabbed my dog and her leash and just went running. I made it about a block before I was out of breath. I kept telling myself that if I could only run a BLOCK without practically dying, then that was pretty pathetic.

Then I thought of my dog and looked down at her and saw how much she was enjoying this.

That puppy-dog face that she gave me encouraged me to keep running.

I'm still running to this day thanks to her.

Funny how something like boredom and a high energy dog can motivate you to do something that you just might fall in love with!
