Rain Gear, Rain Apparel when Running

Any suggestions for what to wear when running in the rain? Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi Kath,
Nice to speak again.
Thanks for your question about running apparel for running in the rain.
It depends a little bit on the weather as a whole I guess.
If it is nice spring or summer weather with some rain, light or heavy, I would still go out in my normal
running shorts and
running shirt. As long as the material is light and breathable it is good. Of course, you will get wet, but at least your clothing will not wear you down as you can get with cotton clothing.
When the weather is a bit colder, then I usually wear a reflective running vest (also see my page with
reflective running clothes). It provides that extra layer of protection and makes you more visible for other road users.
When we get to the truly miserable autumn and winter storms then I would opt for
running jacket and
running tights.
When you get a good running jacket then this can actually keep you pretty dry during the run even in really bad weather. I don't like to wear one unless really necessary, because I hate how hot I get in them.
In the end, there is no magic potion that keeps you completely dry. But you don't really need to stay completely dry to enjoy your run! Nothing wrong with a bit of rain!
