Difficulties with Timing Intervals

As a beginner, how do I time the walk/run minutes? I have tried setting my ipod to 2 or 3 minute tracks but it is not that successful.
I am interested in the cadence thing, would one of those watches help with timing the minutes?
 Answer by Dominique: Hi Nina, Thanks for your question. Yes, I understand your problem, I have had the same for a long time when I was doing intervals, until recently.
It's just difficult keeping track of timing when you are running. The problem is that there are no running watches available that have two timers, so you are always left with constantly looking at your watch.
However, there is a solution available. It is called the Gymboss. I love it. It simply allows you to put in two times. This takes away so much inconvenience. You enter your walk time, you enter your run time, and set your alarm to either beep, vibrate or both and away you go.
It works a treat. I have used it for my interval work and it makes them so much more relaxed. I would recommend it to every runner.
Regarding running cadence: I was not aware of watches that have a metronome function as well. A metronome will help with your cadence, but I don't think it would help with the timing problem.
If it is about the timing, I would definitely have a look at that Gymboss if I were you.
